@ShadowJonathan The problem with CW is that you end up putting CW on everything.

I’ve seen some for « food », « eye contact », and even things like « car ».

I use filters, and sometimes see things I don’t want to, but I just ignore it. You can ignore it. This is possible.

@tisha @ShadowJonathan "Just ignore it" is downplaying the issue. People that don't want to see it or can't handle seeing it shouldn't have to see it. Be explicit so that filters actually can make up for where content warnings are missed. Instead of just posting a picture with no alt text & no post text, say "Look at this food I made!" & add the alt text "A plate of food. It's a sandwich with wheat bread, lettuce, & ham.", now if you forget to add a content warning it's very easy to catch with filters because the subject is directly mentioned in the post.

@jackemled @ShadowJonathan I always put text and alt to give context, but I almost never CW, because I don't post anything NSFW or gory or shocking.

I think these are good intentions, but I also think that no one can expect the whole world to adapt to them. If you think it should, then absolutely every toot in the entire fediverse should be CW, and it doesn't make sense anymore.

@tisha @ShadowJonathan I don't use euphemisms & I add a content warning if my post contains anything I can see as sensitive or edit it to add a content warning when someone tells me that a post upset them & how I can put a proper content warning on it. Not every post would have a content warning if people did that; entirely mundane things like "Look at my new Minecraft house :)" aren't going to upset anyone. If I think a post I make can upset someone I add a content warning, if someone tells me a post upset them I add a content warning.

@jackemled @ShadowJonathan Unfortunaly, I think that everything will upset someone.

Right now on my timeline, I have a CW for... a selfie. A simple selfie. Maybe CW'ed for the people who... don't see any human face in their entire life? I don't get it.

So here, since I'm on Mastodon, I've set it up to "always show", because it was unusable with all sorts of things under CW.

So I sometimes see some unwanted porn or trash things because of too many CW :S

@tisha @ShadowJonathan I haven't had any usability issues, I can just click to unroll the post. Pictures with eye contact get a content warning because it makes alot of people uncomfortable, especially autistic people & other neurodivergent people that find it difficult, which makes up the majority of fediverse users since they're not welcome anywhere else.
