dansup got so much credit in the media for running pixelfed and loops while meta/instagram blocks links to his platforms simply for competing- meanwhile he bans the accounts of me and my friends simply for my not agreeing with his decisions while making a 3rd party client of my own, and banning guest access from my clients despite previously telling me it was allowed. so blatantly hypocritical. not that i’d ever use loops but the least he could do is reinstate my account if he wants to have a valid claim that he cares about competition and there being options lol. im done talking about this i just find it infuriating how easily he gets press for nothing

@h the best part is that he made signups for pixelfed default to his own server and just has a hidden option to use other servers. the guy just made threads but worse lmao

@s1r83r Yeah, but he threatens the devs of them all the time. flips between promoting them and telling them he could end them at any moment. It’s far from just me, but this has already been talked about I don’t need to get into it over again. You can search for it if you care to. it’s like what happened to impressia’s devs (even if they made up, it’s a terrible look for dansup!), to @pixel for their reverse engineering efforts, and others. same reason his projects have next to no significant contributors besides himself, too

@h @s1r83r a lot of apps happening is not that surprising with the exploding popularity, I'd say.

dansup also quite often announces collaborations with other people (like hazel here, welshpixie from mastoart, etc.) and none of them have come to any kind of result, and the reason for that is usually not the other party.

Especially combined with all the recent things and how he only seems to retaliate if his funding is in danger, it seems like he is mostly in it to make money out of this.

But while his software is usable (more or less), it is not to the benefit of the wider FOSS community. Aside of the fact that only one of his projects is released/actually open-source, it also feels like he develops them mostly for his flagship instances (see, barely outside contributions)

@h@social.besties.house a couple of things i noticed about fediverse drama, particularly about dansup. one is he made a big deal about links from his app getting blocked. he seemed to love it. personally, when i posted a pixelfed link on my threads account, nothing was blocked. i think we extrapolated a bit too much from the few times it happened. second, it does seem like blocking a whole app and blocking a person are two different things. i'm not saying it was a nice thing to do, but i think it's not a clear equivalency. third, i feel like everything is becoming a "who's team are you on" thing. i don't like dan's vibes, that's just my opinion. but at the same time, it seems like there's so much chat about what so-and-so has done that it's really hard to make a decision. i heard dan said transphobic things, but i cant seem to find them. so what am i to do? sorry, maybe im rambling. i hope im not coming across as too negative to you and not believing you, its just so hard to know whats really going on these days, at all levels, and im tired lol

@h I've been here for 2 months and it seems like a week without dansup pulling off something awful is a week wasted. This guy seems to single-handedly contain 90% of ego of the whole fediverse combined together.
