A new, undocumented hardware feature has been discovered on the GBA nearly 24 years after it was released. Wild. |
The discovery unfolded on the gbadev Discord a few hours ago. It looks like "green swap", an undocumented hardware register, is actually a primitive stereoscopic mode and some suspiciously unused bits control which eye sprites and backgrounds will get displayed on. According to the research it looks like an every-other-column eye ordering like the 3DS does, but there's no parallax barrier to prevent the wrong columns being visible to the wrong eyes.
